By KURITA-MAY designscape. This garden was called 'the Perfectionist Garden' as one of the personality show gardens exhibited at Urban Gardens 2005 in Olympia, London. The brief was to design an outdoor space particularly to relax in for a client, who is a conscientious and principled 'perfectionist'. The client also wished the garden to be striking in its design and extremely easy to maintain.

Planting within this garden was very important not only to create a sense of tranquillity and gentleness but also to offer all year interest and easy maintenance. Bamboos (Phyllostachys aurea), acres (Acer palmatum 'Garnet'), and ferns (Polystichum setiferum and Dryopteris filix-mas 'Linearis') at the back of the garden provide a pleasant & peaceful enclosure.

The planting around the front dining area offers a range of calm greens with a variety of interesting different foliage textures. (Hosta sieboldiana var. elegans, Hosta fortunei var. aureomarginata, Pinus sylvatica 'Watereri', Helleborus argutifolius, Luzula sylvatica, Stipa tenuissima, Trachycarpus fortunei).

We designed the space with simple, clean lines and deep colours in order to reflect his personality within the garden. The creation of 2 different functional areas, dining & relaxation, complements his lifestyle. Our customised steel planters also received positive feedback & enquiries from the public at the show.
