Created by garden designer Rae Wilkinson the ‘Space Within’ garden at RHS Chatsworth Flower Show 2019, won an RHS Gold Medal, Best in Category and People’s Choice awards.
The garden was designed as a biophilic meditation space in which to escape the hectic outside world for a moment of calm within nature.
A moon gate climber curtain represented a portal from the busy outside world, through which the visitor passed to the meditation deck in the 'Space Within'. The central section symbolising the healing, tranquil inner space found during meditation, whilst providing an area within which to attain this. A mini forest referenced Shinrin-yoku – the healing power of forest bathing and being amongst trees to enable wellbeing.
A second moon gate portal at the back of the space provided a view through a water curtain to the lush foliage behind, calming the senses and representing the energetic flow and continuation which follows on from a moment of calm.
Textural foliage on a living wall system travelled up the walls to bring the positive green element associated with biophilia, which is much needed within modern urban living.
