By garden designer Jim Fogerty. ‘The Australian Garden’ is based on the multi award-winning Australian Garden at the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne.
The garden takes inspiration from the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, where an 18 hectare Australian Garden will be opened to the public in late 2011. The garden represents an opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the stories, colours, textures, sounds and scents of Australia and will encourage visitors to explore the connections between plants, landscapes and culture: connections that lie at the very heart of Australia’s national identity.
It gives a snapshot of the diversity of Australia’s flora and offers the chance to see some Australian plants that are rarely seen outside of Australia.
The rich, vibrant colours of the Red Sand, the silvery-green Eucalyptus leaves, and the cool blue of the boomerang water feature reflecting the outback sky all combine beautifully to show visitors the rich tapestry of the Australian environment.
The Australian Garden will highlight the fact that Australian native plants are much more accessible than many visitors may think, and provide inspiration for UK gardeners looking for something a little different.
Hopefully, visitors will leave the space with new ideas about gardening in dry conditions and a deeper understanding of this wonderful country of ours.
All plants displayed in the Show Garden are Australian native plants.
