The Green Poem

By garden designer Kazuyuki Ishihara. Inspired by the mountainscapes of Nagasaki in Japan, the garden features water, rocks, wind and soft greens to create a feeling of calm. Green Poem will ‘heal visitors’ hearts and recall nostalgic feelings sleeping within.’

Inspired by the beautiful views of Satoyma, Ishihara’s home-town, the garden will capture a calmness, representing a peaceful world. Ishihara aims to capture the ‘Satoyma View’ within an urban setting to give visitors an opportunity to appreciate nature within the confines of the city.

Forest and water will live in this garden and the sound of the water-fall dripping from the rocks will ease tension like music, the branches will flutter in the breeze wrapping round you like a mother would. The plants are as they have remained for a century, awaking nostalgic feelings sleeping in the visitor’s hearts, in turn healing them.

The choice of plants is drawn from the plants of Satoyama and as Ishihara feels at peace with them. He uses mainly Acers, Cornus kousa, Iris sibirica, and Viburnum plicatum, as they match the streams of Japan. Base colours of white and purple wrap the greenery.
