By garden designer Karen Rogers. The Tyrrells Harvest Celebration garden, designed by Karen Rogers from KR Garden Design celebrates the first potato harvest of the season, and the delicious taste of Tyrrells ‘Chips Nouveau’ (potato chips made from the season’s first potatoes).
The garden incorporates a variety of interesting plants and wildflowers that reflect the need for insect pollination for potato fruiting. The design is rustic, yet elegant, showing elements of the potato growing and chipping process initially, then building up to the celebration of the new harvest and the resulting delicious ‘Chips Nouveau’
The main structure in the garden is the ‘Harvest Celebration Area’.The wooden ‘potato shed’ at the back is a showcase for the ‘Chips Nouveau’ – leading into a solid, rustic table and benches under the pergola, where the celebration, party and all important tasting takes place.
A white painted pavilion sits at the far end of the garden offering a place to dine and relax in style on late summer evenings. From here the view is of the courtyard area where a raised pond invites you to sit on its wood coping seat and enjoy the water. A pair of contemporary benches sit nearby, offering a place to catch the morning and evening sun. Local flint, traditionally used in houses and walls has been laid in sections amongst the stone paving, adding interest & texture.
After the show the Pavilion is being re-sited locally at the MS Chiltern Centre, Wendover. A giant plant sale will be held after the show in the designer’s village, all profits will go to the MS Centre.
