Biological control of mealybugs

A ladybird called Cryptolaemus montrouzieri, can be released in glasshouses to control mealybugs.  Both the adult ladybirds and their larvae feed on mealybug adults and eggs. Be award that this ladybird's larvae looks similar to adult mealybugs. The ladybird needs warm temperatures so it's best to release them from late spring to early autumn. It is susceptible to most insecticides and should not be used in conjunction with chemical control.

Parasitic wasps in the genera Leptomastix, Leptomastidea, and Anagrus can help control small populations of mealybugs.
