If cultural methods do not control the problem, repeated applications of fungicide at seven-day intervals may be required. The fungicides tebuconazole, tebuconazole with trifloxystrobin), and triticonazole are approved for the control of rust diseases.
Products containing both insecticides and fungicides, usually tritconazole and acetamiprid, can be used to control rose rust as well. It is recommended to avoid using products containing insecticides unless a pest problem is actually present.
Spray fungicide in spring before overwintering spores germinate, taking care to cover both sides of the leaves and the stems. Some fungicide products will also help control powdery mildew and blackspot on roses.
If the problem persists, fungicides can be applied to the underside of the leaves in summer.
