There a number of steps gardeners can take to control or prevent black rot of carrots:
- Remove and destroy infected plants as soon as the disease is detected. Do not add these plants to compost heaps or bins.
- Practice crop rotation in ground where black rot exists. Wheat and barely help reduce the number of pathogens in the soil.
- Select rot-resistant carrot cultivars.
- Remove weeds regularly.
- Avoid damaging carrots during harvest.
- Store carrots in a cool, dry place. If possible, keep carrots from touching. Regularly inspect stored carrots for signs of rot.
