Cultural control of foliar nematodes (leaf and bud eelworm)

In glasshouses, practive good hygiene and keep conditions dry.

Some plants can be treated by plunging into hot water and then cold water. The timings and temperature are critical, as there is a risk of damaging the plant.

Strawberry runners - 10 minutes at 46 C (115 F)
Ferns - 10-15 mins at 43.5 C (110 F)
Small pot begonias - 30 mins at 48 C (118 F)
Mint runners - 10 mins at 46 C (115 F)

After the final cold plunge, plant up in sterile potting compost, and position out of possible reinfestation.
