Cultural control of frit fly

Prevention is the best way to control frit fly.

- Sow seed early or plant out seedlings when they are large enough to withstand frit fly damage. For corn, plant seedlings outdoors when they have six true leaves. For oats, plant out when seedlings have four true leaves.

- After harvest, remove plants and leave soil fallow for a minimum of four weeks to give time for existing larvae to die.
