There are numerous causes of leaf spot on plants. Many leaf spot disease are specific to a particular plant genus or species. The controls listed here are general and may apply to most leaf spot infections.
For targeted control, see the leaf spot pages here on Shoot for specific host plants including celery leaf spot, hellebore leaf spot, laurel leaf spot (under laurel leaf diseases), Nymphaea leaf spot, Primula leaf spot, and rose black spot.
To control leaf spot:
- Remove heavily infected leaves. Do not add these leaves to compost heaps or bins.
- Rake up fallen leaf debris. Do not add these leaves to compost heaps or bins.
- Avoid overhead watering to prevent spores from being splashed on uninfected leaves.
- Practice good plant cultivation by feeding, mulching, and watering as needed.
