Cultural control of onion fly

Remove and burn badly-damaged plants in late summer. 

Grow onion plants under fine netting to prevent adult flies from laying eggs on plants. Make sure the netting does not touch the plants since the adult flies will be able to lay eggs through the holes.

Grow onions and shallots from sets rather than seed. Sets will be able to better tolerate onion fly.
