There are a number of ways to control or prevent tulip fire in the garden:
- Inspect bulbs carefully before purchase and/or planting. Discard any with signs of decay or signs of black sclerotia in the outer scales.
- Remove and destroy infected bulbs promptly.
- Avoid planting tulips for at least three years in soil where tulip fire is present.
- If a contaminated site needs to be replanted sooner, dig the ground to bury contaminated soil below bulb planting depth.
