Plant 'early first' potato varieties in the last two weeks of March (can be a few weeks earlier in the south, and a few weeks later in the north).
Plant 'seeds' with the chitted growth up in a small trench which is 12.5 cm (5in) deep . Space these 30 cm (12 in) apart in the row, and space the rows 60 cm (24 in) apart.
If there is the danger of frost, push soil up and around the emerging shoots.
