Prune evergreen shrubs lightly (only if needed)

This instruction is optional and should only be done if absolutely needed.

Evergreen shrubs that flower in summer and late autumn on the previous or current year's growth need little or no pruning.

Prune lightly only, if at all, removing unsightly shoots as required in mid to late spring. Shaping the shrub to retain a natural, balanced habit.

Those shrubs recommended for hedges or topiary often tolerate heavier pruning.
