Pull out rooted stems or suckers to restrict the spread of this vigorous plant. Pull out small or shallow-planted roots when soil is moist. Remove any suckers. These appear sequentially, from the bottom of the plant up. The farther up on the plant a sucker develops, the weaker it is, because the sugar concentration gets lower as you move up the plant. Suckers can also drain a plant of nutrients and should always be removed promptly.
