When your orchid has grown out of its nursery pot (usually after 1½-2 years) it will be time to re-pot it in a larger container. The pot should have holes in the bottom in order to drain off excess water; this prevents root rot. Orchids prefer an airy soil mixture, so do not press the soil too firmly.
Use the special orchid soil. After re-potting, water the plant sufficiently with water at room temperature to ensure that the roots are properly settled in the soil and to obtain smooth growth. Then water the plant with the normal amount of water for two weeks.
