Sow seed at the recommended rate provided by the seed retailer. If no recommendation is given, sow at 1-2g per square meter. Mix seed with sharp sand. Evenly scatter seeds over the soil surface, sowing half lengthways and the other half widthways. Avoid using mechanical seed spreaders as they may not distribute mixed seed sizes evenly. Lightly rake the seed into the soil surface. Lightly firm the seed/sand mixture into the soil using a garden roller, back of a spade, or the weight of your feet. If the weather is dry, water thoroughly. If sown on light soil in early to mid-autumn, seeds generally germinate quickly. If sown in late autumn, seedlings may not emerge until spring.
