Spring fertilise lawn

Feeding each spring will encourage grass vigour. If the lawn is not fed vigour declines. Weeds and moss can then rapidly establish. Use a proprietary spring/summer lawn fertiliser at the manufacturer's recommended rates.

Fertilisers are either carbon based (organic) or man-made chemicals (inorganic). Organic fertilisers include products made from dead animals (eg fish, blood and bone) or plants (eg seaweed meal). Rock potash, a naturally occurring mineral, although some organic gardeners prefer to avoid it.

Many manufacturers have tried to simplify fertiliser selection by producing products labeled for specific plants or situations. There are ones for tomatoes, lawns and roses, as well as uses, such as container plants.
