Most climbers need formative training if they are to look their best. Tie climbers in to a frame support as they begin to put on growth. Strong supportive wires, trellis or a similar support are necessary to help climbers grow to their full size.
Trees can also support climbers, but remember that as they develop leaf they will shade out lower climbing growth. You may have to thin out the tree canopy to let some light through.
Once established after initial training, some climbers do not need further tying in as they twine, have tendrils or aerial roots to support them.
