The seedlings are ready to transplant when they have 5-6 leaves. Water the rows the day before planting out. Plant with as much of the original surrounding soil as possible to the same level as they were growing in the seed bed. You can dip the roots (as your local garden center for the best solution) if you fear club root.

Space early autumn variety plants 60 cm (2.5ft) apart in rows which are also 60 cm (2.5ft) apart. Firm soil down around plants.
