Transplant leek seedlings into plot

Transplant leek seedings when they are 20 cm (8 in) tall and as thick as a pencil. Water the seedlings the day before the move.

Make 15 cm (6 in) deep holes, 15 cm (6 in) apart along rows which are 30 cm (12 in) wide. A dibber is a useful tool for this, and usually comes with depth markings to help make the right sized hole.

Trim the root ends and leaf tips. Drop each leek into the hole. Gently fill the hole with water to firm the roots.

Do not back-fill the hole with soil as this can cause gritty produce.
