Winter prune gooseberry bushes

Prune branches to an outward facing bud for upright bushes or to an upward facing bud for spreading bushes. Cut out any dead, damaged or diseased branches first (remember to always wear protective gloves and clothing when pruning goosberries) Then cut back this year's leader branch growth by one half. Also reduce the side-shoots growing out from the leader branches by 6 cm.
