Pruning a buddleia

Pruning a buddleia

Question from Jan Minter

My buddleia has grown a lot in the past year and I am afraid it will eclipse the plants around it and become too tall. What should I do to keep it in check?

Buddleias should be pruned March/April time. They flower on new wood. If flowering is over or you really need to prune now then prune the branches back by about a third.
When new growth begins in Springtime you can cut back to around 8 inches.
I hope this helps sort out your problem.
