Re: Hi I want to plant a variegated pittosporum hedge in my front garden which is south facing, which variety would you advise?
Hi.
Most pittosporums are fine with full sun.In fact variegated ones are best in sunlight.
Plain tenuifolium or ten' "silver queen" are probably the most widely sold.
You need to consider the ultimate height of your hedge and how regularly they will be pruned. Pitto's prune ok in spring & summer...they can look a bit battered if they have heavy pruning.
Another thing regarding this species as a hedge, they dont much like cold drying winds during winter so think about how exposed they will be in the winter months.
