Suitability of this plant for my garden

Suitability of this plant for my garden

My mother is looking for an evergreen plant that is non-poisonous as it is going to be placed next to a koi pond. The plant has to kept to a certain size and would therefore need to be pruned at least once a year. Is this plant suitable for Hampshire? The bottom of the plant will be protected by the pond wall, but the top will be exposed.

    Hi, Gill,
Given the winter the UK has just experienced, it is hard to say if the pond wall will be enough to protect it from the elements. P. tenuifolium is frost tender, and needs a sheltered spot. What about 'Tom Thumb' - it is smaller so might stay completely sheltered by the wall and will require little to no pruning.

      Hi Kathy,

Thanks for your advice. I will investigate Tom Thumb to see if it reaches the height we require. The other plant we are looking at is Choisya ternata Sundance, so I will compare the two.

      Best Regards,

      Gill E.
