Chelsea Flower Show is going to be virtual this year, and Knoll Gardens will celebrating the vibrancy of their plants and grasses, and the benefits of naturalistic gardening for our health, our environment and our wildlife, during ‘Virtual Chelsea’ week, with a series of daily ‘From the Experts @Knoll’ features.

Visit the Knoll Gardens website https://www.knollgardens.co.uk and follow their posts with daily expert advice from rain gardens to dry meadows, and from speciality grasses to wildlife and wellbeing. The expert gardeners at Knoll will offer tips and ideas to help you adopt a more naturalistic approach to gardening by sharing a few of their professional secrets, to enable you to create the most wonderful, magical – and practically maintenance and resource free - garden for all seasons.

You can also access the super helpful ‘Plant Finder’ online resource at https://www.knollgardens.co.uk, which quickly and easily tells you which grasses and perennials are best for a whole range of planting areas - from ‘dry shade’ through to ‘damp soil in sun’ – covering every possible, problematic combination of gardening areas!

Find out what a day in the life of a professional gardener is really like – it is not all a bed of roses or even grasses – but one thing is for sure, it will inspire you to want to change your whole perspective on gardening, and look at gardening in a revolutionary new way.

Our world has changed a good deal in the last couple of months, so why not make 2020 the year that you tune into a more natural, rhythmic and empathetical style of gardening, that is very much in tune with our precious green spaces, and allows both us and our plants to reach our full potential within them.

Find out more with the daily Chelsea Week ‘From the Experts @Knoll’ posts, starting Monday 18th May.

Yes - just to help out on the Perennial show garden for a few hours on the Saturday. I would love to help on the actual builds/planting for a show garden - but don't have time to spare. It would be a great experience I'm sure.

On the list already are Parcevall Hall and York Place, Scampston and harlow carr, newby hall and then some of the big historic gardens ... any recommendations please for modern or at least 20th century gardens ideally north of harrogate and york? NGS website gives location and descriotion but not enough images to give feel of quality for gardens. Any inspiration? Design over plantsman type preferred ,,, I know it's quite a big ask - it's for a tour of italian garden enthusiasts ....., any recommendations much appreciated ...

Ellicar Gardens, near Doncaster, famous for its award winning natural swimming pool and recently voted 2nd place in the English Garden Magazine’s ‘Gardener’s Garden’ award, opens its gates to the public on Sunday 21 September, from 1-5pm to raise money for the National Garden Scheme’s caring charities.

Owner’s Will (horticulturalist) and Sarah Murch (garden designer) both say this 5 acre, naturalistic garden is looking at its best this time of year- its sweeping borders overflowing with beautiful grasses and vibrant late perennials.

New this year is a perennial flower meadow, weaving a tapestry of new perennials and grasses around the natural swimming pool- creating a lovely new place to sit and relax by the water.

A recently sown late season wildflower meadow is flowering for the first time and the gravel garden is awash with self-sown verbena bonariensis attracting butterflies. Ellicar Gardens supports a wealth of wildlife- with bumblebees feasting on the late flowers and iridescent dragonflies still skimming the natural pool surface - there is plenty for wildlife enthusiasts to explore here.

Children will enjoy discovering the vibrant school garden and willow maze and the chance to meet an array of friendly rare breed pets including golden Guernsey goats and kids, dewlap geese, a kune kune pig and ponies.

Those seeking refreshments can sit and relax in the gardens enjoying delicious teas and home baked cakes.

Plant Sales include unusual grasses and perennials.
A great day out for families, garden and wildlife lovers.

Ellicar Gardens in Doncaster is opening its stunning gardens with its famous natural water swimming pool on Sunday 8 June 2014, in celebration of International Natural Pool Day, and to help raise funds for National Garden Scheme (NGS).
International Natural Pool Days have been celebrated throughout Europe for the last 10 years and the event is beginning to gain momentum in the UK. Ellicar’s showpiece 300 sq m BIOTOP natural, chemical free pool, is at the forefront of natural pool design and it has become a bit of a celebrity since it featured in the BBC2 TV Series “The Great British Garden Revival” last autumn, when TV gardener Charlie Dimmock took a swim in the pool’s crystal clear waters.
Although the BIOTOP natural swimming pool won’t be open to swimmers on the day due to the numbers likely to attend, the pool will be looking spectacular with its planted pool edges providing a haven for bees, butterflies and birds. Other areas of the gardens will also be in full bloom, such as the rose and perennial flower borders and the wild flower meadow, which will be bursting with moon daisies come June.
As if the gardens and pool won’t be enough for visitors to enjoy, Ellicar‘s owners Sarah and Will Murch have arranged a host of family activities to take place throughout the day, willow weaving, floristry demonstrations, specialist plant sales with gardening advice given by local expert horticulturalists and nurserymen.
There will also be lots of activities for children, including a garden treasure trail, face painting, Boggit making, a play area and school garden, and the chance to meet an array of rare breed pets including golden guernsey goats, dewlap geese, a kune kune pig, ponies and aberdeen angus cattle. Families can also learn about garden birds and how to make a bird box from the RSPB.

Hello!
I would like to organise a plant swap afternoon. My husband and I opened a wine bar in Woking, Surrey, also selling teas/coffees and we want our little bar to become a place where interesting and community based events happen not necessarily based on wine!

Being keen on gardening myself I thought it would be a nice idea to create a biannual event where people could come along with some off cuts of their own garden plants (labelled with a little info if you have it) and swap them for new a different plants for your garden from others.
I am talking to a number of gardening bodies including RHS Wisley to see if they can help, maybe by someone being present to help offer advise and general garden chat.
All of this can be enjoyed with a cup of coffee or glass of wine if you would like!
I wanted to post it here to see what people thought of the idea. Also what time of year would be best to do it? I had thought Spring and Autumn but would love to get some expert advice from gardeners, maybe you could suggest a month when cuttings are best?

Please do let me know your thoughts on this and any advice you can share will be greatly appreciated :-)

Our wine bar is Cellar Magneval
Thanks
Jo
