Thyme between paving blockss

I've planted Thymus Doone Valley in a bed near the path. Will it spread into the paving block joints itself or do I need to plant bits actually in the joints? I'm a complete beginner!

    Hi, Terry,
    Probably not as much as you would like. I suggest using something like Thymus serpyllum 'Minor' (Creeping thyme) - it is even lower growing than T. x citriodorus and will fill in the joints nicely and neatly. Or, woolly thyme, which goes by many botanical names, the official, preferred one being Thymus polytrichus. If you can get your hands on a plug tray of either of those, they would be easy to plant in such tight spaces and would fill in nicely. I have Thymus serpyllum 'Minor' in between stepping stones in my garden. Plug planted last year and has filled in all space between the stones. It also holds up to some foot traffic from my 3 1/2 year old and my 16 month old.

      Hi Kathy C,
      Thanks for that. I infer from what you say that I would need large gaps between the pavers. The gaps I have are only about 3 - 4 mm! Do you think plugs would take in that sort of space. Maybe I'm being too hopeful!

        Hi, Terry,
        Yup, I'd say that was a little too narrow :) You might want to try scattering seeds in those gaps - maybe something like Alyssum?
