Clematis Pink Perfection - Petal Loss

I planted a clematis pink perfection last year. It flowered profusely in April but the flowers have now finished already and all the petals have fallen to the ground. I was expecting the flowers to last for a month or so, rather than just for a couple of weeks. Was my expectation wrong, or is there something I can do to prolong the flowering period? I fed the plant in early April and tied in shoots to the fence where it's planted.

    Hi Alison,

This is a hybrid of Clemtis montana and they have flowered and gone over extremely quickly this year because the weather has been so warm. I was comparing last year to this and reckon that we are as warm as we should be in three weeks time. Next year with a cooler April your flowers will last longer but montana is never the longest lasting clematis. For long lasting flowers choose a double flowered one. Pip
