is this a wild geranium? and how to get rid of it?

Taken over a new very large garden and this plant is everywhere, loads of roots which seem to have strangled lots of everything else in the garden.
I need to get rid and at the moment it seems the only way is to dig it out, any other options to control it?

    Hi Adrian

    Looks like a hardy geranium & yes, in my experience digging it out is the best solution if it has gone on the rampage. We have used weed killer on it in our garden but it seems to only kill the foliage off & the very tough roots survive.

    That said, it's toughness can be useful - we have transplanted some onto a grass verge where it sussesfully helps bind the soil of a heavily sloping bank, plus it's flowers are pretty.
