Hi Paula,

my Dad grew some ivy "golden heart" in a small pot up a wall. It was never had vigorous growth, but it did alright.

Thinking laterally they are a woodland species and they have to compete with established trees or hedges for water and nutrients, so they are hardy!

Like most pot plants the lack of water is probably the biggest risk. Try putting in water retaining products (absorbent mats/sponges). It will give them a better chance.

Give it a go.

Can Irish ivy or indeed any hardy ivy be grown in a pot? I have a shaded wall with no soil at base and want to grow up wall.
I would be grateful for advice. Paula
