The best compost/potting soil to use is a loam-based compost like John Innes 3 (if you are in the UK). Add fertiliser pellets and water-retaining gel at planting. Just keep in mind that this is a vigorous, spreading-type bamboo that will benefit from a large container.

I have just purchased this bamboo and it is currently in a round pot but I want to replant in a rectangular pot my question is what soil should i purchased?

Strengths: lovely bright stems, hardy, fast growing and will spread quickly underground to form a large ever increasing patch.

Weaknesses: Spreads fast underground. Rhizome barrier to surround the plant is good to keep it restrained though.
