I always like to prune things after they finish blooming. You tie the main stalk to the framework, then remove most of the side shoots that are thin right to the main leader that you have trained to the support or arbour, head back the ones of pencil thickness. Next year you will see growth on the nodes, this will produce your flowers. Remember every plant bears fruit or flowers on horizontal limbs
Honeysuckle will flower on new growth. You will need to prune to keep tidy and remember this plant will need to be tied onto it's support. It is the wrong time of year to prune - wait until the spring and signs of new growth appear. Hope this helps Cheers Angie
Dear Members- can anyone tell me if you need to prune honeysuckles to keep them tidy. Will I lose flowers if I prune after flowering. Thanks for your attention. Neeta
