Need to cotrol the size - can i cut back in winter

Planted several of these in July last year and they must like the conditions because they've grown much taller than expected. i didn't cut them back in winter - I just trimmed back the dead leaves when the new growth came throu in early spring. Will these be smaller if I cut back completely in late autumn?

    Hi, Anne,
The advice here on Shoot on the Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' page is correct - to cut back to the base in late winter or early spring. Did you cut them to the ground? They really like where they are - they are only supposed to reach 30cm :)
