Re: How to grow a new plant from eucaliptus sideroxylon rosea
Usually I find that collecting the seed capsules when they have turned from green to grey or brown, then leaving them in a container on a relatively hot place, such as on top of a boiler or range cooker. Once the capsules are fully dry, they will usually open up and allow the seeds to fall out. This sort of replicated that natural flash fire scenario, which in the wild causes the seed to flow. With Eucalyptus there are usually a lot of aborted seed, and you can usually expect only the larger seeds to be viable. This is general to Eucalyptus, and not specific to your variety. Some Eucalyptus species are also subject to embryo dormancy, which can usually be overcome by storing the seed moist in a chiller for 6-8 weeks, or sowing in the autumn.
