This is the hybrid Ocimum kilimandscharicum x basilicum. Here in Germany I find it as Strauchbasilikum 'Magic Blue'. In warmer climates it is supposed to be a perennial, The young plants are not too expensive, but I'll probably try taking cuttings this fall, rooting them in a glass of water.
We have it in containers against a west-facing fence on the roof terrace, so it gets full afternoon sun; the flowers will continue until the first frost. The fragant plants are very popular with wild bees, bumble bees, and honey bees, but they won't bother you.
To keep it looking sharp, I occassionally thin out the flower heads when they begin to turn brown.

I kept it once at home in the utility room near window. Then I tried in the greenhouse, not properly heated but frost free. It doesn't produce any seeds, so I can't sow it, but there must be some propagation possibilities. Does anybody know?

Hmmm, as a general rule, 'African Blue' is short-lived so it won't last long. Where are you keeping it?

I'm in passion with this one. It said to be perennial, but I've never been successful to keep it through winter. It can't be propagated from seeds, so how to keep it? I know only one seller in the area, I find it only in August going to Taunton Show, then in October it dies again. What can I do with my love?! Do anybody have better experience?
