My leggy Hydrangea Macrophylla

Hi, my gardner planted 3 of these about 4 years ago. they were very slow growing and from the first year were very leggy with few flowers. I pruned them quite hard 2 years ago but they are still leggy. Any suggestions would be appreciated?

    Hydrangea m are tricky where pruning is concerned. You should prune in Feb. although some people prune as early as Nov., you can thin out the weak stalks to the ground, then cut back the newest growth to the most promising leaf buds, you do not want to go to far to the brown wood, keep to the greenish looking wood, I hope that works for you.

    Although they are happy in shade - they do need some sun. Are they in too much shade and are reaching towards the light?
    You can prune them right to the base but to the sacrifice of the flowers - they do regenerate from the base but can take a couple of years to flower again.
