No flowers on my Cornus Florida Rubra yet and I need to move it...

Hi everyone,

I planted a Cornus Florida Rubra (flowering Cornus) in June of 2011 but there are no flowers yet. It's not very high (waist high) so not very old - does anyone know how old they are before they flower for the first time?

Also, I need to transplant it this winter because I need to drop the ground level by about 10 inches - has anyone any experience of whether a flowering dogwood will tolerate being re-planted??

    It takes a few years for you to get excited about the flowers, I'd say 5 years, it is young and can be transplanted in Fall after leaf fall, do you'll get anthracanose on your C. Florida? I don't advocate planting them for my customers, I'd rather have the kousa, the pink one is called Satomi.

      Hi,
      thanks for your reply - I've not seen a sign of any anthracanose or any other disease.. yet.. so it seems I'm lucky so far! I was out looking at the tree and its surrounding ground earlier today and in fact, it looks as if we can probably get away without moving it, at least for the time being. For now, I shall just feed and mulch it and keep an eye out for any stress. Thanks for the warning about the fungal infection - I hadn't read of this in any of the books I referenced so at least I'm fore warned.
