Mildew problem

Mildew problem

Question from Sybil

I put this in a couple of years ago to cover a new fence quickly. The first year it was fine, but this year it has suffered from powder mildew and has had no flowers. It may be in the wrong place for the fence is backed by a neighbours trees. I may just give up on it, but does anyone have any ideas for remedies. I am reluctant to spray as I have encouraged bees into the garden.

Did you plant the root ball right next to the fence? It would be too dry there and could explain the mildew. David Austin roses have just sent out their new catalogue which list which roses are good for where
