Ceanothus arboreus 'Trewithen Blue'

My Ceanothus Arboeus Trewithen Is very healthy, although several of the branches are now overhanging the lawn. Can I prune them back quite hard so that I can keep it under control in my small garden. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
