Hamamelis x intermedia 'Diane'

Thanks Nicola.
The garden is on south downs chalk, so shallow soil that is well drained and alkaline.
the area that I am thinking of putting hamamelis is in partial sun and well drained. it is south facing and sheltered from wind by a mixed hedge.
It's a bit bleak round here in winter so I wanted something beautiful to see out of the kitchen window in winter. Was thinking Diana.
HAs anyone had any experience growing hamamelis in a chalky area?
Does it need pruning to turn it from a bush into something that looks more tree like?
THanks

Welcome to Shoot. What are the conditions of your garden? How much sun? What type of soil and so on. Kind regards Nicola

Hallo everyone,
THis is my first post on shoot. Went to HArold Hillier gardens yesterday and woke at 3am thinking trees!
I am wondering how you think Hamamelis would do in my garden, if I were to plant in some good topsoil and compost when planting over current thin topsoil...( I am prepared for bad news/ realism btw!)
thanks very much.

Maybe some deep watering might help, or it could be too late.
