Dianthus 'Raspberry Sundae'

Hi, Sam,
I think this one may have had the wrong hardiness rating. Dianthus 'Raspberry Sundae' is a Pink - a type of Dianthus that is fully hardy in most areas of the UK. RHS gives it an H6 hardiness rating and they have a USDA hardiness rating down to zone 5 or 6. However, they do not like waterlogged or excessive wet, especially during winter which is one of the reasons some use as an annual. Also, they need neutral to alkaline soil and full sun so they won't do well in acid soil or shady conditions.
Hope this has been helpful!
All the best,
Kathy C

These dianthus, most of us treat them as annuals if we lose them, or as perennials if we are lucky. It says H3 - tender in frost - which usually means you can't rely on it to survive outside in a harsh winter, but it might be ok if there is not a really severe frost. Most of mine have managed the last few winters. Every now and then I lose one.
