I have a Gaultheria mucronata 'Mulberry Wine', and have read that I need a male plant to get the a female to fruit. How do I tell if I have a male or a female plant?

I thought they always sold them as a pair, viburnum davidii also needs a male to get the blue berries. I would take a chance get one that has berries, knowing you have a female.
