What is wrong? Disease?

What is wrong? Disease?

Question from Diana Gibbs

What is wrong? Our plant flowered beautifully at first in early June, but since then the buds have died and the inner parts of the branches have lost their leaves, some leaf stems look blackened. Does anyone know what's wrong and what to do to save the plant? From Diana in Suffolk

Could it just be variable weather which we have certainly had here. Cistus are basically Mediterranean type plants..?

Dear Mrs Bentley Thank you for your reply. I think you may be right as we had rain, then very strong winds for several days. I think it may also just have got too leggy as it wasn't pruned last year by our predecessors (this is a new garden for us).
We've now pruned it back to where there are fresh shoots growing and are hopeful it will recover.
      Kind regards
      Di
