I have a Cornus plant which should have white bracts each spring, my plant has not had bracts for some years.
any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Observations
Is it possible for the Cornus to throw up suckers? this could be the case
also the plant has become very shaded in recent years, could this possibly be the cause?
Many thanks in advance to anyone giving advice
Regards
Philip

Hello -
I've looked high and low for this Salvia, Salvia x jamensis 'Golden Girl', and have turned up empty-handed. I thought I'd reach out here to see if anyone has any thoughts on how I can track one down for purchase.
Thank you!

Plea for information. My dog has epilepsy and despite lots of medication his seizures remain uncontrolled. We have noticed, as a number of owners have, that his seizures worsen in March continuing on to August. During September to January months he is relatively seizure free. I'm looking for any advice on potential triggers regards plants, trees, light etc. during this period although realise a needle in a hay stack! Any information might be really helpful, thank you!

Hi there, yes we can help. You can use Shoot up until the end of your current paid term.
Some members purchased longer term subscriptions which sounds like you if you have more than 1 year.
Yes you can stay on with Shoot for longer if you wish. You have three options to continue - 1) you can upgrade now to a pro subscription for 5 gardens at the current lower price until 10th March 2023; 2) you can wait until your next renewal and pay the higher price at that time; or 3) we will be offering discount offers to all paying home members post launch from 16th March 2023 up until 31 May 2023. More details will be coming post-launch. I hope that helps? Best wishes, Thea

I have an additional query to the above. I am also a home user. I have read the reply and clicked on to the links above, but do not find that the information for home users is clear.
I have over a year to run on my current home subscription. What do I need to do to carry on iwth that - if that is even possible?
Communication to our home/hobby members We sent this email to all home subscribers as well. For everyone with a current paid 'home' subscription they can use the New Shoot after our relaunch at no extra cost until their subscription expiry date.
Upgrade option Some home subscribers, like yourself, have already chosen to upgrade to a professional subscription now before we make the move across.
Current subscriber upgrade FAQs 1. Will I lose the remaining term of my current paid subscription? No, you will not lose out. By making a new subscription purchase, you will be credited the value of your remaining term at the same time as a credit off. 2. When will my next renewal date be? Your new subscription will be for 12 months from the date of your new subscription purchase.
We hope that helps explain the changes coming and the options now available.
Best wishes, Thea

Is shoot going to be only for professionals? I used to be a hobby gardener with just two gardens but splashed out upgrading to professional. I have locked in at the current price but when that expires i will not be able to afford to continue. My friend who is a hobby gardener says she thinks that it is going to stop. Is that right? If so what other options are people looking at

We’ve enjoyed success with our Megapotanicum grown in a planter (80 x 40 x 40cm), but the planter is finally disintegrating. I’ve made a new planter and want to transfer it from one to the other.
Are abutilon roots sensitive to being disturbed, or (like some plants) can they tolerate some degree of chopping through? I may be able to move all/most of the soil along with the plant, but if that’s proving difficult it would help to know if I can cut through and transfer a smaller quantity of soil with the plant.
Same circumstance and question for the Trachelospermum.
Many thanks

Hi Peter, we wish we could give you an exact date. We are in testing now - so we are getting closer. However, it is an enormous website and we need to make sure all is as it should be before going live. We know it has been a long time coming - thanks for your patience.
A few years ago I started growing Gladiolus murielae in a couple of large pots, they flowered well for a couple of years and I loved them so much I decided to put them in the ground in the hope that they would spread. The first year they did well with lots of flowers, the second year I only had a few flowers and last year none at all, this year isn't looking great either; plenty of leaves but no flowers.
My soil is sandy and well drained and they are in a bed that gets sun for most of the day during the summer. Is there anything I should be doing to get them to flower again?

I was just searching for Lincolnshire Scad and came across this rather old thread so I thought I'd join a post a reply. First warning I'm not a gardener, I'm just interest in history! I was tidying up an old plum tree in the churchyard and took some of the fruit home. It was rather nice, not too keen on the sweeter "modern" fruits. I was talking to a neighbour about the trees poor condition and he told me it was a Scad. He knew of this one, one in Horncastle and a couple over Woodhall Spa way.
I didn't think the tree was going to live much longer so grafts were taken and I now have one, in the garden and fruiting. I intent (with a local gardener) to get more done this year to try and "save" this variety.
It flowers early, the first time I noticed this tree was because of the flowers in February! It was late March this year and I find the purple leaf colour appealing.
If anyone would like further information I am more than happy to provide it where I can.
Hi, wondered anyone might know why this has happened please.
I bought two Rhododendrons last year and they flowered fine. This year however they flowered a couple of weeks ago and then within a week all the petals looked a bit sorry for themselves and all fell off. I have a North facing garden and they are against a wall. It has been windy weather for a while with rain but awful for them to only last a week.

A friend of mine gave me clippings to this plant many many yrs ago which I propagated successfully and grew into Topiaries & set them out in the summer months. . I live in Alberta Canada & Unfortunately, a few yrs ago an unexpected hard frost at end of August killed all of them, lord knows I tried to save them. Since that time I have tried to buy the plant but can't find it. I knew if I had the seeds I could be successful, however finding them was like trying to find teeth in a chicken (chickens don't have teeth) nor were there any seeds online. I tried different sites even in other countries where they grow annually to no avail. There is a lot of information about this plant & pictures, but no offerring or sale of seeds. So if anyone on this forum knows where I can find these seeds, I'd welcome any leads or information as to where I can get these seeds or clippings. Thanks

Hi. Does anyone know where I can purchase a Brenda Colvin Rose Plant/Bush/Root? I am looking for this to be a centrepiece to a remembrance area we are creating in our garden in memory of our beloved and sadly-departed family pet, Brenda the Bassett Hound. Many thanks. Andrew

Recent Winds have "disturbed" the Archways upon which my climbers are well established. They were already becoming top heavy especially the Jasmin. I now need to replace the 18 year old posts/archways, but it will be impossible to thread the new posts/rails between all the old growth.
Objectives:- 1. Replace posts and rails. 2. Cut back far enough to achieve Obj 1 but not kill off the climbers.
Q. How far back can I cut the climbers, Half the height, One third or is it dependent on the plant?

When I moved her e in 2019 I inherited these two clematis that were overtaking the garden. They had a good prune and for the last two years I have pruned them but they do need a weekly ‘haircut’ to stop them overtaking again. My question is – how hard can I prune them please? Or do I continue with these birds nests of clematis. These photos were taken last Friday.

I have inherited two old clematis (about 30-40 years old I think) and am not sure how much I should prune them back. When I moved here in 2019 they were overtaking the garden and were pruned back and for the last two years they have had a good prune but not a drastic one but they do need keeping under control with a 'haircut' every week to stop them overtaking the garden. Can I prune them back really hard and if so, how hard or do I continue with what I am doing now. These photos were taken on Friday. Advice please!
