Hi,

I have recently heard of an interesting sounding plum variety called 'Lincolnshire Scad' and was wondering if anyone knew anything more about it and particularly where they may be some bushes/trees available? Thanks in anticipation Jonathan

Hi Jonathan, Sorry we cannot find this for you. I have now posted a question on Facebook and Twitter (we have tweeted a request to some nurseries).

Also sent a few emails to fruit nurseries for you. Hope you get a reply! If you find it let us know and we'll add it to Shoot so that you can also add to your 'plants I have' list.

    Merry Christmas, Nicola

    Good afternoon,
Buckingham Garden Centre here and I've had a good look through all our fruit grower listings to see if Lincolnshire Scad is offered and/or available.
Sadly nothing I'm sorry to report. Perhaps a better tack would be try and find someone with this variety and then arrange some scion wood for propagation, so re-generating it and therefore bringing it back from the brink.
Sorry we could not help further.

    Hello

I was just searching for Lincolnshire Scad and came across this rather old thread so I thought I'd join a post a reply. First warning I'm not a gardener, I'm just interest in history! I was tidying up an old plum tree in the churchyard and took some of the fruit home. It was rather nice, not too keen on the sweeter "modern" fruits. I was talking to a neighbour about the trees poor condition and he told me it was a Scad. He knew of this one, one in Horncastle and a couple over Woodhall Spa way.

I didn't think the tree was going to live much longer so grafts were taken and I now have one, in the garden and fruiting. I intent (with a local gardener) to get more done this year to try and "save" this variety.

It flowers early, the first time I noticed this tree was because of the flowers in February! It was late March this year and I find the purple leaf colour appealing.

If anyone would like further information I am more than happy to provide it where I can.

    Regards, Ian
