Hi Cole, welcome to Shoot!

If you go the page we have for Solanum Album you'll see the WHERE TO GROW tab tells you what this plant likes in terms of position - sun or part shade. If you fill in your garden profile with sun, pH etc. we also give you a visual check for each plant too on the same tab.

If you want to find more shade loving climbers use our advanced plant select.

Here are the results for 'Full Shade & Climbers'

Hope this helps:)

I would like to grow this plant over an arch at the bottom of my garden, but the area is fairly shady, although it does get some sun at this time of the year and it is quite sheltered. I am wondering if it will grow in this area. I live in the west country.

Hi, Michael,
This plant is in pruning group 12 which means it should be pruned after flowering. If you add this to your 'Plants I Have' list, you will get detailed information on how and when to prune.

Hi, I bought this plant about 6 foot high and have in a steel obelisk. Can I now keep it pruned to the frame of the obelisk or will that harm the plant and stop it flowering?

thanks for your valuable advice Kathy - did not even know there was a Laxum! Will post more pics to see if you can identify it as I would have said the flowers were quite purply (may be my camera that is not showing it fully).

Have contacted the suppliers but no response so this week even sent them a pic as proof but still no response. Will ring them after the weekend and see what happens. If still not happy will name and shame!

Hi, Laura!
Yup, I think you were sent the wrong plant. It is probably S. jasminoides (syn. S. laxum) - the straight species of Potato vine. It has blue-white flowers with yellow anthers like the one in your photo. I don't think it is S. crispum or S. crispum 'Glasnevin' - they tend to be a little more purple than blue-purple. Are you going to contact the supplier? If so, please let me know how you get on - I am curious to know what they do about it! Good luck!

I ordered 5 plug plants of Solanum jasminoides 'Album' and they have just started blooming...but are not white! Think I have been sent the wrong Solanums - are these Solanum Crispum or something else?
