Hi Rose, we are compiling a list of things to improve for the new website following our recent investment. We will add this one to the list now. Thanks for the feedback. Cheers, Nicola
Quite agree! If I am recommending Shoot to my design clients, it would be a much better product if there was a link for every plant that clicked through to the appropriate pruning instructions. A comment below implies that this is the case, but I haven't found it to be so.
Did your Choisya survive? They could have been suffering from chlorosis. Although not common with Choisya, I have seen it before. You could try watering with sequestrated iron - it won't hurt.
Thank you for your help. Unfortunately the soil is damp down to 6 inches, and due to a rainy spell they have been watered every day. What do you think?
Hi, Jalilah, How often are they getting watered. Plants in containers, particularly on roof top where it is a bit windier/breezier than on the ground, will need frequent watering in summer - possibly a deep watering every other day. Kathy C
Hi, My choisya's had a wonderful spring with flowers and lots of green shoots. They are potted and approx a year old however recently they had yellowing leaves whereby I added some fertiliser. I then didn't really take notice of them for a few weeks, the leaves are now very droopy and yellowing with some leaves looking crisp/pale cream?. Help! They are in full sun west facing and we are on a roof top.

Hi Cathy Thanks for understanding my frustration over this. However it isn't obvious and in the case of Choisya ternata the pruning advice appears under June and clicking on the highlighted portion takes you to a general note which really provides scant information regarding pruning for the uninitiated. You are left wondering if this is just a general note or is it all you get for Group 8. Nowhere does it mention Group 8.
It would be so nice to have a care note for each plant that said Pruning Group "X" and clicking this with one click should take you to a page explaining exactly what Pruning Group "X" was and how to go about it.
Never mind we can't have all we want in this life and so I'll just be satisfied with the general excellence of the Shoot site.
Hi, Colin, I understand your frustration when looking for advice on how to tend your plants, but the pruning info is here on Shoot as well. If your Choisya ternata is in your 'Plants I Have' list, all you have to do is click on the green highlighted pruning instructions. You'll be immediately directed to a page that explains what pruning group 8 is, as well as when and how to do it. It will also list any other plants that you have (as long as they are in your Plants I Have list) that fall into pruning group 8 so you know which other plants in your garden can be pruned in the same way and/or at the same time. So, both the RHS and Shoot have what you need, though I tend to prefer the more personal feel of Shoot since I can personalise the experience tomy garden specifically. Kathy C
Hi Mother Nature Thanks for the tip of visiting the RHS site - far more informative than Shoot. Shoot would do a lot better if they had a section where pruning groups could be viewed directly but I have the info now and know where to find them in future.
Early flowering evergreen shrubs fall into group 8. and should be pruned immediately after flowering. here is a link to the RHS website [LINK]http://apps.rhs.org.uk/advicesearch/Profile.aspx?pid=168[/LINK] i am not familiar with shoot if they have info on the different groups. hope this helps

I also would like to know where to find out when and how to prune my choisya. I would like it to carry on growing upwards but it is pushing forward into the border too much. Any advice please?
Oooops! Still no pruning instructions. My plant is getting out of hand and I need to know how to trim it without causing damage. Anyway what is PRUNING GROUP 8 and where on Shoot can I find these pruning groups?
Rgds Colin

Hi Selina - I can confirm there was a glitch. Thanks so much for pointing it out. Our researchers confirm that this shrub is pruning group 8 and the care instructions now appear again for it. BR, Nicola
The shrub has glossy, bright green leaves composed of three oblong leaflets. These are aromatic when crushed. Some hoverflies and moths may be attracted to this species but fewer than might be expected, given its powerful scent.
