28 June - 28 Sept 08

UK designer, Catherine Heatherington's first European public garden opened at the Liseberg Amusement Park in Gothenburg this weekend. The permanent garden is part of the Gardens of Gothenburg Festival and is a collaboration between Catherine Heatherington Designs, Swedish landscape designers 02Landskap and the Liseberg team.

The garden, a peaceful and contemplative space away from the bustle of the amusement park, takes a contemporary look at the woodland stream; water falls from a tall channel atop a drystone wall, emerging further down the valley to cross three smooth reflective slate water blocks. Catherine's original aim was to create a space which linked contemporary elements with the huge rock walls and mature trees of the valley. The water blocks are tucked into the rock whilst paths and stripes of white and green planting wind amongst the oaks and sycamores.

The Gardens of Gothenburg Festival includes both temporary and permanent gardens at four sites around the city.
