pruning wrong season - what will happen?

pruning wrong season - what will happen?

Question from Shoot User

I pruned my penstamon to pretty near the ground today (November) and then subsequently read that I should be overwintering it and then pruning in Feburary. What are the implications of my 'wrong season' haircut?

They are susceptible to winter wet more than the cold, now that you have done it, I'd put some leaf compost or some other organic compost to protect the crown and hope for the best.

Thanks - so I basically cover it up with compost in a little heap?
